Full-Length Plays

We accept script submissions for consideration of full-length plays throughout the year. All submissions that meet our guidelines will be considered for future production. Plays submitted as "production ready" will be considered for inclusion in production slots in our upcoming season. Plays submitted as "reading or workshop" will be considered on a rolling basis for development opportunities. Regardless of status, all playwrights will be considered for the Playwright-in-Residence program for the upcoming calendar year. Kindly indicate in your submission email if you would like to be considered for the Playwright-in-Residence program.

Compensation: Theatre 4the People covers all production costs associated with rehearsing and performing the piece. In some cases, we are also able to offer a small stipend to our full length playwrights. Playwrights retain copyright and full ownership of their plays.

Important: Please ensure that a character breakdown (including age and gender, if applicable) is included on the version of the script you submit to us.
Format: PDF format is REQUIRED. Microsoft Word, FinalDraft, and Google Docs are not accepted.

All Pieces - Full Length and Short Plays, Musicals, Devised Works, and Solo Performance

Theatre 4the People is currently accepting applications to the 2017 Playworks Festival, a process-oriented two week opportunity for five artists to explore ambitious new works with a company of collaborators. As leaders of their own artistic development, writers not only investigate new projects but strengthen the ways of working that best serve their plays. Theatre 4the People is seeking a diverse group of writers interested in exploring a wide variety of plays, musicals, devised work, and solo performance – in any stage of development.

Length: Any. A full play, scenes, or pages are all acceptable submission material. An abstract or artist's statement is required alongside any incomplete or non-written works.
Compensation: Theatre 4the People covers all production costs associated with workshopping the piece. Compensation is not available for participation at this time.

Important: Please ensure that a character breakdown (including age and gender, if applicable) is included on the abstract or script submitted.
Format: PDF format is REQUIRED. Microsoft Word, FinalDraft, and Google Docs are not accepted.

Please note:

At this time, we are only able to notify those writers whose submissions pass on to the second stage of our reading process. We are deeply appreciative of the work that is submitted to us, and please know that all writing that is submitted to us will be read, and that we are deeply grateful to each of you for the time and consideration you put into your submissions and for your interest in our company.

Please direct all play submissions to Erika Phoebus, Artistic Director, at theatre4thepeople@gmail.com

If you would like to invite a member of our staff to attend a workshop or reading of your play, please contact us at theatre4thepeople@gmail.com
